Your help is needed in Burma. My uncle is involved in an organization called Project Enlighten. Please see his e-mail below and consider making a donation that will actually get to the people who need it in Burma.

Hi, Many of you know that I work to support Project Enlighten, run by Asad Rahman from the Klamath Hotshots and the Free Burma Rangers, run by Dave Eubank, former 1st SF Group and 2/75th Ranger. Both are NGO’s doing important work in Burma, Laos and Cambodia. The cyclone that devastated Burma will claim almost 100,000 lives. More will be lost as a result of the ineptness, uncaring, and totalitarian Myanmar government than the immediate impacts of the cyclone. It is impossible for most of a donation given to a legitimate organization allowed into Myanmar to not end up in the pocket of some corrupt government official. Those allowed into Myanmar must use the official exchange rate to convert foreign currency into local currency. The official rate is about 6.8 MMK to 1 USD. The unofficial street rate is about 1100 MMK to 1 USD. That means some government thug(s) is pocketing 1093.2 MMK for every 6.8 that gets to anyone in need. The ultimate arbitrage!

We have an amazing team that’s committed to making sure every dollar gets where it can do some good. No overhead costs (NONE), and as much transparency as humanly possible given the nightmarish chaos that is Burma right now. (http://www.abitsu.org/) has some up to date video and news if interested. Magnify anything you saw or experienced in Hurricane Katrina by several levels of destruction, misery and suffering. That’s what’s occurring now in Burma on a countrywide scale. Please consider making a donation through Project Enlighten as our team works to save lives in Burma. (http://www.projectenlighten.com/donate.html). You can read our emergency action plan if interested to see how we intend to circumvent red tape and deliver aid where it is needed, to the people who need it most.Project Enlighten is a registered 501 (c) (3), Non Government, Non-Profit Organization, in the United States of America. Your donations are fully tax-deductible.Thanks for your consideration.

Take care,

Mark
